Mahmoud Fouad’s Boulevard Architects with more than a decade in the industry

Boulevard Architects, a prominent multidisciplinary architectural firm founded by Mahmoud Fouad since the year 2011, garnering a reputation for its innovative design and commitment to client satisfaction. In a recent interview, we had the opportunity to interview Fouad to discuss his journey in the architectural industry, his work, and the philosophy behind Boulevard Architects.

Growing Roots

Graduating with an architectural degree in 2011, Mahmoud Fouad established Boulevard Architects to create spaces that not only meet functional needs but also inspire and elevate the human experience. “Every project is a unique journey,” he explains. “I am deeply committed to realizing its full potential, ensuring that each design resonates with the client’s vision.” He has since graduating dedicated a career to the fields of architecture and interior design, continuously expanding his knowledge and expertise.

According to the architect, he reveals the name “Boulevard” stems from the French word signifying “street.” “I chose that name because I think the word serves as a collection of diverse works and experiences. This concept resonates deeply with our philosophy; we do not confine ourselves to a singular focus or style. Instead, we embrace a broader scope of design, showcasing that we are more than just an interior design firm.”

During the beginning of the firm’s inception, they started off with a small talented team, and when things became official and started branding the name, they marked a significant milestone in their journey. “By that point, I had accumulated considerable experience in the industry. Initially, I grew my client base through personal connections and networking within the architectural community. Nowadays, much of my growth is driven by word of mouth, as satisfied clients refer me to others.”

The Passion in Practice

When asked about why he chose a career in architecture, he reverently replied, saying, “Architecture has always been my true passion. From a young age, I was determined to pursue this profession, inspired by my father's work in the construction industry. I felt a strong desire to continue our family's legacy in this field and make my own mark.”
During our conversation, Mahmoud emphasized the significance of listening to clients. He described his approach as akin to that of a sponge, absorbing their ideas and preferences to craft tailored solutions. “Understanding the client’s lifestyle and aspirations is essential,” he noted. “This collaborative process is what ultimately leads to successful projects that clients cherish.” Explaining that each client has unique tastes and personal preferences, and it is essential for the work to reflect the impressions gathered from them. This attentive approach enables the delivery of tailored solutions that meet their expectations and enhance their living spaces.

“When I first engage with a client, they are introduced to our team and provided with a detailed questionnaire. This document serves as a guideline, containing questions that help us understand their preferences, such as their desired home style, preferences for air conditioning (split or concealed), and opinions on home automation. These inquiries create this recipe that guides us in devising the most suitable tailored solutions.”

The architect considers aesthetics and functionality just as equally, never compromising one for the other for a well-rounded architectural design. “Neither one is more important than the other; they are interdependent. If a client prioritizes function above all else, it undermines the role of the architect. Aesthetics play a crucial role in functionality, and it is this balance that distinguishes us in the industry.” As an architect’s role is holistic, considering every facet of a project, from functionality to aesthetics and constructability.
The firm Boulevard Architects includes professionals in architecture, interior design, technical drawings and packages, furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF&E), site management, and engineering.

13 Years of Achievements

The architect reveals it has not always been a walk in the park. He reveals, “Not only is this industry highly competitive, but achieving success is particularly difficult, especially for a design and build company like ours. We face the complexities of maintaining control, ensuring client satisfaction, and adhering to strict deadlines and submission dates, all while managing various regulatory requirements.”

The level of competition in the architecture and design industry is exceedingly high. Establishing oneself and demonstrating both personal and company value is a challenging endeavor that requires substantial time and effort.
“Being accountable to the commitments we make and the specific type of projects we undertake is crucial. Meeting and exceeding client expectations is not just a goal; it is a fundamental part of our ethos. We strive to ensure that every project reflects the client’s vision while adhering to the highest standards of quality and innovation.”

But despite these challenges, Fouad finds immense satisfaction from accomplishing something meaningful for his clients. “I find great joy in knowing that my work leaves a lasting impression, and it warms my heart to think that clients continue to remember and appreciate the exceptional designs we create together.”

Looking ahead, Mahmoud Fouad is optimistic about the future of Boulevard Architects. With a growing portfolio that includes a plethora of project types, “Our mission is to push the boundaries of design and continue to create spaces that enrich lives,” he concludes.
